Reflections
on 9/11 -- One Year Later
Chancellor Robert C. Dynes
invites the UCSD community
to gather at Price Center Plaza at noon to commemorate the
anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the United States
of America.
We
should take this opportunity to come together so we can
honor the memory of those who were lost and celebrate the
enduring spirit of those who sustain the resilience of our
nation. "Reflections on 9/11: One Year Later" will consist
of several events throughout the week of September 9 -13,
2002. In the days and weeks to come, updates about "Reflections
on 9/11: One Year Later" events will be posted on campus
Web sites.
The following is a tentative schedule for Sept
11, 2002. The office of Special Events & Protocol will
finalize the details as the anniversary date approaches:
The
names of those who lost their lives will be displayed and
a tree planting is planned. At noon, the Veterans Staff
Association will present colors, followed by brief remarks
from the Chancellor. A faculty member will sing the "Star
Spangled Banner", inviting the crowd to join in. Chancellor
Dynes will memorializes those who lost their lives on September
11, 2001, and Associated Students President Jenn Brown,
and Graduate Student Representative Tom Flemings will unveil
a plaque that will be affixed to the tree. Carillion chimes
