A
commemorative program to mark the anniversary of the September
11th terrorist attacks and remember those who lost their lives
will be held at noon Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the Price Center
Plaza at the University of California, San Diego. Chancellor Robert
C. Dynes has invited all members of the UCSD community to attend
the one-half hour program of reflections on 9/11 and, for those
who wish to do so, remain for a religious/spiritual service led
by Mark Padrez, director of the Office of Religious Affairs at
UCSD. Representatives from a number of faiths will join him in
the service from 12:35 to 1 p.m. A highlight of the commemoration
program will be dedication by Dynes, Jenn Brown, Associated Student

the west end of Warren Mall. The plaque inscription reads: "Dedicated

tragic events of September 11th by opening the Scripps Pier from
3:00 to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2002. Please feel
free to walk on the pier that afternoon if you would like a peaceful
place to reflect and remember. ARTS (A Reason to Survive) will
provide two inspirational quilts made by children of San Diego
showing their version of love, peace, and hope. Many of the other
handmade quilts will be on exhibit at the Pentagon at this year's
remembrance of 9/11. In honor of those who lost their lives and
to note the impact of that day on the nation and the world, bagpipes
will be played on the pier at 4:00 p.m. At 5:00 p.m., ten American
flags will be raised and illuminated on the roof of the small
building on the end of the pier. The flags will be lit each evening
through Monday, September 16, 2003.
